Ubon Ratchathani province covers a total area of 15,744.85 square kilometers. The province is divided into 19 districts (Amphoe) and 6 King Amphoes is located in north eastern Thailand, bordering Laos and Cambodia. The provincial capitel is some 630 kilometers from Bangkok.
The province relatively unknown to most tourists, has a well established community, many of Laos origin. They have a strong affinity with their cousins on the other side of the Mekong River. The increasingly busy border crossing at Chong Mek is developing into a centre for Lao and Vietnamese goods and handicrafts.
Ubon Ratchathani is one of the major provinces in Isaan, known for its candle festival which is held in late July every year. The festival features music, parades, floats, beauty contests and enormous carved bees wax candles of all shapes. That are prepared by people through out Ubon Ratchatani province and paraded through the city.
Ubon town lies on the banks of the Mun river, considering its size is very laid back town. The provinces main attractions can be found by following the Mun river down to its confluence with the Mekong river.
Ubon is known as (The Two Coloured River) boats can be hired for trips along the river and sometimes over to the Lao village, near Pha Taem National Park which offers beautiful scenery.
Pha Taem and Pha Mon are located 3 kilometers beyond Sao Chaliang. Pha Taem and Pha Mon are two steep cliffs overlooking the Mekong river with a clear view of Laos on the other side.
On the cliffs surface there is prehistoric paintings dating back 3,000 - 4,000 years, reflecting the ancient ways of life, of the people who once lived in the area. Such as Buk fishing and rice farming, figures of people, animals, hands and geometric designs are also depicted.

Ubon Ratchathani National Museum, once the provinces City Hall, has an exhibition of the province's history. Geological features of the northeast, discovered artifacts and local handiwork, plus local musical instruments.
Wat Supattanaram is the first Buddhist monastery of the Dharmanyuthi sect in northeastern Thailand. Situated on the bank of the Mun River not far from the town center.
Built in 1853 with an initial royal donation by King Rama IV. It has as its principal image the Phra Sapphanyu Chao which is greatly revered by both local people and visitors alike.
Wat Maha Wanaram the ancient and principal temple of Ubon, houses the sacred Phra Chao Yai Indra Plang image, highly venerated by both the people of Ubon and neighboring provinces.
Wat Thung Si Muang is renowned for its traditional wooden Ho Trai scripture repository, with an intricately carved gable, in the middle of a pond.
The monastic hall of Wat Thung Si Muang houses beautiful mural paintings depicting episodes from Buddhist literature and scenes of local every life.
Kaeng Tana National Park is located in the Khong Chiam district, Ubon Ratchathani province. The general landscape is highland covered by deciduous forest. Its passed by The Moon and Khong Rivers and has many under water caves with lots of fish. In the middle of the Khong River there is a large rock island.

Phu Chong Na Yoi National Park is located in Boon Trick District, Najahlauy District and Num Yuen District, Ubon Rachathani Province. The area is close to Lao Peoples Democratic Republic and Kingdom of Cambodia.
The park is a part of Phanom Dongruk Mountain Range. Consisting of many big and small mountains such as Phujong Nayoy, Phujong Numsub, Phujong, Phuchun Dang, Phu Plansung and Phu Planyao. Its also a productive forest inhabited by a great number of animals.
Pha Taem National Park. The park is covered by dipterocarp forest with Shorea obtusa, Shorea siamensis, Dipterocarpus obtusifollus are dominant species, beautiful flowers some dry evergreen forests near the streams.

Thai Airways International and Thailand's Budget Air Carriers have daily flights from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani, from the Airport you can take a Bus or Taxi to your Hotel.
Express Trains and Rapid Trains depart from Bangkok's Hua Lamphong and Bang Sue Railway Stations (Northeastern Line) to Ubon Ratchathani daily. Offering many choices, from 1st Class air conditioned sleeper (Private Room) to 2nd Class Adjustable Seating, tickets need to be booked in advance.
Air Conditioned Buses and non air conditioned buses depart daily from Bangkok's Northern Bus Terminal to Ubon Ratchathani. The journey takes between 9-10 hours.

Ubon city has plenty to offer shoppers, department stores, shopping mails, night bazaars, markets, street stalls, Big C and Tesco Lotus superstores.

Ubon has a good selection of bars, pubs, nightclubs and discos around the town, in addition you will find a number of restaurants that provide musical entertainment.
