Bangkok Thailand's capital, great for shopping  and nightlife, sightseeing tours are a must. Night Cruises on The Chao Phraya River a visit to the Grand Palace Bangkok and take the children to DreamWorld.


Bangkok - Pattaya, a cheaper alterative. Pattaya City has something for everyone and represents good value for money, excellent hotels and seafood restaurants, plenty of family theme parks, water sports and leisure activities plus many tourist attractions, also some of the best golf courses in Thailand.


Transport Services Thailand. Travel is not expensive in Thailand, many visitors, choose to purchase a return flight, stay a couple of nights in Bangkok before moving on to their chosen destination.


Tourism Thailand


The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), head office in Bangkok, plus local offices in 22 major cities throughout Thailand and at TAT information counters at all local airports. TAT provides maps, brochures and other information on tours, shopping, dining and accommodation. TAT information centers operate seven days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


The Thai Tourist Police was set up in 1982 to coordinate with TAT in providing safety for tourists, and are stationed in major tourist areas.


Clothing, light and loose attire are the best, nylon should be avoided and sweaters needed during the cool season. Jackets and ties are required at certain restaurants, nightclubs, and entertainment establishments.


Electricity the electric current is 220 Volt AC (50 cycles) throughout the country. There are many plugs and sockets in use. Travelers with shavers, tape recorders and other appliances should carry a plug-adapter kit.


Water, tap water is clean but drinking from it directly should be avoided, bottled water is recommended.


Tipping is not standard practice in Thailand, although it is becoming increasingly common. The large hotels and restaurants add a 10% service charge to the bill. Smaller restaurants and taxi drivers do not expect a tip but the gesture is appreciated. 10 - 20 Baht is acceptable.


Weights & Measures, the metric system is used throughout Thailand, numerals on vehicle speedometers, highway markers and speed limits all indicate kilometres.


Medical Services, tourist destinations and provincial capitals have hospitals and clinics staffed by well trained doctors and nurses, ambulances can be summoned from any private hospital.


Internet cafes are available throughout Thailand. The average charge is about 60 Baht an hour, with a minimum charge of 20 Baht. If you have your own laptop free wifi is also available in many hotels, restaurants and clubs.

Mobile Phones. If you need to keep in contact with friends and family we recommend that you bring an unlocked mobile phone with you.


Thai sim cards are cheap, the calls are a faction of the price of western mobiles, calls to Europe vary from 4 to 8 Baht a minute. Useful telephone numbers when visiting Thailand.
