Kingdom of Thailand


The Kingdom of Thailand Lies in the Heart of Southeast Asia. The Country is divided into four Topographic Regions.


1) Northern Region, Mountains and Forests. 2) The Central Region, Vast Rice Fields. 3) The Semi-arid Farm Lands of Isaan the Northeast Region. 4) The Long Coastline and Tropical Islands of the Southern Region.


The Country Comprises of 76 Provinces. Which are divided into districts, sub districts and villages? It enjoys a tropical climate with three seasons. Summer March to May is very hot. June to September, rain with plenty of sunshine. Cool from October to February.


Thailand was known to the west as Siam until 1939. When on June 24th the Government changed its name to Thailand. Translated into English means (Land of the Free), the Kingdom of Thailand is approximately the size of France, or the state of Texas with a total land area of over 500,000 square kilometers and a coastline of over 3,000 kilometers. Its neighboring counties: Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Burma and Vietnam.

The Capital of Thailand Bangkok is the centre of political, commercial, industrial and cultural activities in Thailand.

Bangkok is also the seat of Thailand's revered Royal Family, HM The King of Thailand, recognized as the Head of State, Thailand's Armed Forces and is Guardian of all religions in Thailand.


Thailand has a Population of over 65 million people, of which 75% are ethnic Thais, 15% Chinese and 5% Malaysian, plus Lao, Khmer, Indian and Burmese minorities, approximately 10 million Thais live in Bangkok.



Buddhism is the professed religion for over 90% of all Thais and casts a strong influence on their culture and way of life. The most famous person in Thailand is HM The King his portrait appears everywhere including in all Thai homes. His Public Appearances Attract Huge Crowds.

The Thai Currency, Thai Baht. One Thai Baht is divided into 100 Satang, Bank Notes are in denominations of 1,000 Bt (brown) 500 Baht (purple) 100 Baht (red) 50  Baht (blue) 20 Baht (green) and 10 Baht (brown) Coins Consist of 25 Satang, 50 Satang, 1 Baht, 2 Baht 5 Baht and 10 Baht.


The Thai Language, spoken and written Thai is incomprehensible to the casual visitor. English is Thailand's second language and widely understood, particularly in Bangkok. It is spoken in most hotels, shops, restaurants and in all major tourist destinations Thai-English road and street signs is found nationwide.
