Sailing - Thailand


Thailand’s 3000 plus kilometers of coastline is one of the world’s most beautiful and varied cruising grounds. Thousands of islands combined with a tropical climate, bays and lagoons, with crystal clear water, coral and white sandy beaches, provide idea sailing opportunities. Most of the smaller islands are uninhabited and offer unique limestone formations with mysterious caves, coral and sandy beaches offers unforgettable sailing adventures.


The dry season is mainly from November to April and prevails insuring steady and pleasant sailing conditions with maximum strength winds of force 5 to 6 in January, decreasing during March and dying away by April. May through to September is the rainy season with long periods of sunny weather with a good breeze, there are also periods of unsettled weather with rain and sometimes rain squalls with strong gusts.


Sailing - Phuket


Phuket Thailand’s largest island is located in southern Thailand on the Andaman Sea coast offers plenty of good sailing grounds. Island groups such as the Similan and Phi Phi islands, the scenic coves, lagoons and white sand beaches are great for overnight stopovers. Yachts and catamarans can be rented from Phuket sailing schools, to the east of Phuket is Phang Nga Bay giving you access to hundreds of island anchorages.


The Phuket Kings Cup Regatta


The Phuket Kings Cup Regatta is Asia's biggest and most popular regatta. The week long event consists of great parties, great sailing and lots of fun. Inaugurated in 1987 to celebrate the 60th birthday of His Majesty the King of Thailand the event has been held every year during the first week of December, with the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King.


The Phuket Kings Cup Regatta is organized by the Phuket Kings Cup Regatta Organizing Committee under the auspices of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, in conjunction with the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand and the Royal Thai Navy in the Province of Phuket.


Koh Samui Sailing


Koh Samui is a tropical paradise surrounded by about sixty other islands, most of which comprise of the Ang Thong National Marine Park and also includes other island destinations such as Koh Pha Ngan, Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan.


The Samui Yacht Club holds a monthly mini regatta for local yachters and the yearly international Koh Samui Island Regatta. The Sailing schools operating on the island make Koh Samui a good place to start sailing.


The Gulf of Thailand


The Gulf of Thailand that spans Pattaya Koh Samet and the Koh Chang Archipelago offers some 200 nautical miles of pristine waters with over 50 tropical islands to explore. Gulf Charters Thailand with bases in the Gulf of Thailand located at Koh Chang and the Ocean Marina near Pattaya. Manage a fleet of 10 catamaran and keelboat sailing yachts ranging from 32ft to 70ft offer Yacht Charter options ranging from Bareboat through to complete Sailing Holidays.


Gulf Charters Thailand is Asia's only certified International Yacht Master Training (IYT) facility, offering courses from beginner through to Yacht Master. These courses can be combined with yacht charter options to deliver complete learning sailing holidays.


The Royal Varuna Yacht Club


The Royal Varuna Yacht Club was founded in 1957 and is virtually the history of yacht racing, sailing and cruising in Thailand. The first national championship recorded in the Kingdom was the Enterprise Nationals, held at the Varuna Marine Club in 1962.
