The Tsunami of December 26th 2004 took it's toll on the island and most tourist development was completedly devastated. The recovery has been slow due to the authorities reluctance to allow unchecked development to close to the beach.


It has actually had a positive effect on the island as many considered the island to be over run and spoilt before the tragedy. The island now seems to be returning to its natural state. Providing tourists with a more beautiful Phi Phi Don.


Koh Phi Phi Don prior to the development of its tourist infrastructure there was little happening on the island. Without tourism there would be no industry at all. Tourists come here to relax as there are no busy roads or giant supermarkets. Shopping malls or large scale entertainment centers.


The fine white sandy beaches with their breathtaking rock formations rising from the vivid turquoise waters that surround the islands. Instantly confirm you have arrived in paradise.

The Classic butterfly shape of Phi Phi Don the two distinctive back to back bays  Loh Dalam and Ton Sai beaches that are only 50 meters apart is one of the world's most spectacular seascapes.

Hat Noppharat Thara - Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park better known as the Phi Phi Islands, can be reached by boat from Krabi or Phuket. Island tours are availible from all local travel agents.


Koh Phi Phi Don is the largest island of the group and is where the marjority of tourists head. It offers a selection of accommodation from simple beach huts to bungalow resorts.


The National Park covers an area of 387 square kilometers. Which includes the near by islands of Nong Thale sub district, Ao Nang sub district, Sai Thai sub district and Pak Nam sub district of Mueang Krabi.

Getting To The Phi Phi Islands


Phi Phi Don is reached primarily by regular ferries or private boat trips from Phuket, Krabi and Koh Lanta, air shuttles are now available from Phuket. and provide a speedy and convenient alternative to boat.


On Koh Phi Phi you will find no cars, buses or taxi transport, there are no roads on this tropical paradise, depending on where you are located on the island, there are longtail water taxis for hire, idea for island hopping or hire a canoe and explore the islands many coves and caves.
