The Central Region of Thailand |
The Central Region of Thailand (Central Plain) covers the broad alluvial plain of the Chao Phraya River. It is separated from Northeast Thailand (Isaan) by the Phetchabun mountain range, with Myanmar to the west.
The area was the heartland of the Ayutthaya kingdom, it is still the dominant area of Thailand today. The Central region of Thailand contains the Thai capital of Bangkok, and is the most populated region in the country.
The Central Region of Thailand includes the eastern provinces, and is divided into 26 provinces, for statistical purposes these are divided into 4 groups.

Western Thailand Region: 14. KanchanaBuri 15. Phetchaburi 16. Prachuap Khiri Khan 17. Ratchaburi 18. Samut Songkhram 19. Suphanburi.

The eastern region of Thailand is sometimes listed as a separate region, destinct from central Thailand, sometimes only the four coastal provinces. None of these regions are actually a administrative subdivision, they are only geographical or statistical groupings.
